Godrej Properties Ltd. (GPL), one of India's largest real estate developers, has launched a new environmental initiative called Neighbours With Nature. The platform is designed to bring ecological restoration directly into the neighbourhoods where GPL builds its homes — making nature a core part of urban living, not an afterthought.
What is Neighbours With Nature?
Neighbours With Nature is a long-term platform that unifies all of GPL's environmental work under one identity. The focus areas include nature restoration, water system improvement, biodiversity enhancement, and community engagement. Rather than limiting sustainability to the buildings themselves, GPL wants to extend its impact to the streets, corridors, and open spaces that residents use every day.
The Chakkarpur–Wazirabad Bundh Restoration
The first project under this platform is the revival of the Chakkarpur–Wazirabad Bundh — a 5.2-km ecological corridor running through the heart of Gurgaon. Once a neglected drain, it has been transformed into a walkable, biodiverse urban corridor in partnership with I Am Gurgaon. The work included native tree plantation, reuse of construction waste, cycling and pedestrian paths, solar-powered lighting, and rainwater recharge systems.
GPL's Environmental Track Record
Over the last few years, GPL has diverted over 96,000 tonnes of waste from landfills, facilitated more than 17 million litres of water recharge, and planted over 4 lakh trees across its projects. The company has been ranked #1 globally among listed residential developers by the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2025.
Godrej Miraya and IGBC Platinum Certification
GPL's Gurgaon project Godrej Miraya served as the launch venue. It has achieved IGBC Net Zero Waste Platinum Certification at the design stage and includes the adoption and rejuvenation of a neighbouring creek to support biodiversity, natural drainage, and microclimate improvement.
Dia Mirza Joins the Initiative
UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza attended the launch and shared her thoughts: "A city becomes far more livable when it is nature-positive. True luxury today is not about excess, but about finding a thoughtful balance with the environment."
What GPL's Leadership Says
Geetika Trehan, CEO – North Zone, said quality of life is shaped as much by the environment around a home as the home itself. CMO Lalit Makhijani described responsible luxury as designing neighbourhoods where sustainability shows up in everyday life — in the shade you walk under and the nature you experience.
What's Next
Neighbours With Nature will expand across all of GPL's future micro-markets in India, covering greener public spaces, biodiversity pockets, water restoration, and community-led stewardship — rooted in the Godrej Group's Good & Green philosophy.
